Work Experience

We are very happy to encourage students from schools or colleges into the profession but can only accept those over 16 years of age. We require a letter outlining any career aspirations and an accompanying letter from school or college. Please send these to our HR Manager; contact details below.

Student Placements

We are always keen to provide veterinary students with an opportunity to ‘see practice’. However, we do have a large number of requests and therefore advise contacting us well in advance of the dates you require. We tend to restrict the number of students that are with us at any one time to ensure that you benefit from exposure to lots of different cases within mixed practice. It may be possible to book predominantly farm/equine or Small Animal but this will depend on the time of year.

Each student is expected to bring their own protective clothing that can easily be disinfected between locations. This is especially important for large animal work and a student will not be allowed onto farms without it. As ‘seeing practice’ is designed to give students an in-depth insight into the rigours of daily life as a veterinary surgeon, we would encourage participation in weekend and out-of-hours work where possible.

If you would like to see practice with us please submit a supporting letter containing the following:

  1. Dates required – with first and second preferences

  2. Any preference for seeing small animal, large animal or mixed work.

  3. Any previous work experience or ‘seeing practice’, and where it took place

  4. What you are hoping to gain from your time with us.

Please send your letter together with your CV to Jo Howl (contact details below).
