We run and in-house laboratory for haematology and biochemistry tests to give same-day results.

We use other laboratories for more complex testing – samples are either collected from the practice each evening or sent via Special Delivery.

Post-Mortem Examinations

We offer an experienced post-mortem service for both farm animals and horses. These are performed at local facilities where disposal can also be arranged. Samples are collected and sent for further analysis where necessary.

APHA at Shrewsbury offer a collection and post-mortem service that can be very cost effective when lots of tests are required. This is for farm animals only. The Veterinary Investigation Office will arrange collection directly with you after we have arranged the submission.

Sudden Death in Farm Animals

Please remember that any unexpected sudden death in farm animals must be reported to the APHA. This is because there may be a requirement for Anthrax testing. If after repeating the details of the animal to the APHA, we are instructed to undertake an investigation, the carcass must not be moved.

We will arrange to sample the carcass and confirm non-existence of disease as soon as possible – usually within a couple of hours.
