Each of our three practices has a dedicated theatre where surgical procedures are undertaken. Routine surgery is performed Monday to Friday, usually in the mornings with admission between 8.30 and 9.30am. We need your dog or cat to be starved from 7.00pm the night before (this is not necessary for rabbits, exotics and small mammals). When your pet is admitted for surgery, you are given the option of having a pre-anaesthetic blood test.

This blood test is chosen more commonly in older pets where there is a concern over their general health and thus suitability for surgery. The results may influence the procedure and anaesthetic chosen, this is recommended for animals 7 years and over. However if you feel you would like it done for a younger animal, then we can make sure this happens.

We have the latest anaesthetics available to the veterinary profession to give you peace of mind that the safest option is selected. During surgery and into recovery your pet is closely monitored, and in most cases will be able to go home later the same day.
