Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used as a part of Traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years, where it can be used to treat almost any medical condition. In our surgery we use it solely for the treatment of chronic pain and inflammation; more particularly chronic arthritis and joint disease.

Our vets have been carrying out acupuncture on animals for a number of years with many patients returning for regular treatment. There are numerous benefits in using acupuncture, especially where anti-inflammatory drugs are contraindicated due to old age or illness, and also where owners have a preference for more traditional, non drug-based therapies. Compliance of the patient is obviously key, though most dogs don’t even notice the needles and just object to standing still for 10 minutes at a time.  In addition acupuncture can be used alongside more routine treatments to give greater benefit.
